Treasures from Grandma
I was dusting furniture in my bedroom and took a moment to just linger over these two pictures. The baby one was hung in my grandmothers room her entire married life. I believe it is a Bessie Pease Guttman. It hung next to her bed in her room for so long that when she passed away and I was asked what keep sake I would enjoy, I said this picture because I had been visiting it since my childhood to look at the serene infant face. My mother said “Sure, What picture do you mean?” and when it came off the wall my aunts gasped. It had become so much apart of the atmosphere of my grandmothers sweet room that no one remembered it, having just quietly settled into the ambiance of a quaint bedroom full of treasures; a time capsule of gifts from grandchildren and family and souvenirs from travels. The little chalkware framed picture I found 20 years ago at a yard sale. It was mixed in with some old home interiors and magazines and was fifty cents. It has convex glass. So sweet.
